HONOLULU – The First Insurance Company of Hawaii (FICOH) board of directors has elected Jeff Shonka senior vice president, chief operating officer (COO). Shonka joined FICOH in 2002 as its chief financial officer. With this promotion, Shonka has assumed responsibility for key operational areas of the company, including Claims, Personal and Commercial Lines, Legal, Surety & Fidelity, and First Risk Management Services (FiRMS), a subsidiary brokerage operation for non-standard risks.

“Jeff is an invaluable member of the executive team who during his 10 years with First Insurance has not only earned the respect and trust of our officers, but of his department, our company and other industry leaders in Hawaii,” said Allen Uyeda, president and CEO of First Insurance.

HONOLULU (December 14, 2012) – The race is on!  The public has the opportunity to decide which Hawaii non-profit will win an additional $5,000 from Subaru Hawaii during its “Share the Love” sales event. In addition to the $5,000 bonus to one lucky non-profit, Subaru Hawaii will donate $250 to a group of great causes for every new vehicle sold by December 31 -- Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawaii, Hawaii Wildlife Fund, Oahu SPCA, SPCA Maui and Hawaii Island Humane Society.

HONOLULUwww.VoltaCharging.com – Volta Industries (Volta) today announced as of Nov. 1 it has given away over 62,000 miles of charging during more than 2,000 free charging sessions via its 10 Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations, part of the Volta Network.

“Thanks to our sponsors, EV drivers on Oahu have saved the equivalent of $10,000 in gasoline charges, offsetting enough CO2 to fill 10 Washington Monuments,” said Scott Mercer.  “With new stations being installed each month across Oahu, we expect that number to shoot even higher, to give away more than half a million miles in Hawaii in 2013.”

Margaret Murchie selected to serve as Hawaii Association of Realtors Director

Margaret Murchie (R) CRS has been selected as Director for the Hawaii Association of Realtors (HAR) nominated by Honolulu Board of Realtors. As Director on the Board, she represents the members and is responsible for the governing of the State association. Many of the issues that HAR addresses impact members' daily business lives. Directors must be aware of these issues and are responsible for bringing it to the attention of the Association, as well as communicating the Board's decisions back to their constituency. Murchie is serving a 3-year term beginning January 1, 2013.

Licensed since 1978, Murchie is vice president with Coldwell Banker Pacific Properties in Kahala.

Damon Key Leong Kupchak Hastert, one of Honolulu's most prestigious law firms, has hired two new associates who are both recent graduates from the University of Hawaii William S. Richardson School of Law. Kelly Morikone, will practice in the firm's Immigration Practice Group and E. Kumau Pineda-Akiona will primarily focus on work within the firm's Real Estate and Construction Practice Group.
