Some of Honolulu's finest were recognized Wednesday by a group of prominent individuals whose mission is to help police and firefighters.

The 200 Club awarded five police officers and civilians for outstanding service to the department and community.

The annual Breakfast Awards ceremony was held at the Waialae Country Club Wednesday morning.

The group of 200 community leaders provides financial support for HPD programs and helps the families of fallen officers.

The honorees included Sgt. Benjamin Moszkowicz. The 12-year veteran was named officer of the year for his contributions during last year's Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation conference.

Moszkowicz coordinated the training of 1,800 APEC duty officers and developed a database that saved taxpayers about $5 million by bringing the department in under budget.

"The goal was to keep the department on track to spend within our budget and to save the city and county and taxpayers, ourselves included, as much of that money as possible while maintaining a certain level of readiness and preparedness we needed for the APEC meeting," Moszkowicz said.

Other 200 club honorees included Aunty Alice Kanae Hewett, who received the Citizenship Award for 50 years of volunteer with the police activities league, also known as PAL, which helped more than 20,000 keiki.

Marilyn Mastuda was named Civilian Employee of the Year for her work as a secretary for the specialized services division.

Joseph Becera was awarded Reserve Officer of the Year for his volunteer work with the Kalihi Crime Reduction Unit, which resulted in nearly 200 arrests.

Sergeant Michael Cannela was named Police Parent of the Year for making a difference at home, on the force, and in the community.
