3 boys arrested for assaulting bus driver

Honolulu police arrested three teenage boys for allegedly assaulting a City bus driver.

The incident  happened just before 3:45 p.m. Sunday in Hawaii Kai when police say the driver asked the boys to stop eating on the bus.

The boys refused, an argument ensued and the boys ran off.

Police say in addition to assault, they damaged a bus door and window. One of them even stole the driver's ID.

A 38-year-old Makakilo man was arrested for allegedly holding his girlfriend against her will and threatening her with a knife.

According to police, the incident happened Sunday night while the couple was driving near Sandy Beach.

They say the man would not let the woman out of the car, held a knife on her and even pushed her face against the window.

He was taken into custody and held pending charges of kidnapping, terroristic threatening and assault.

The man indicted by an Oahu grand jury in the first so-called "sexting" case in Hawaii has entered a plea of not guilty.

Cody Onizuka, 25, was arraigned in court Monday morning.

He's charged with promotion of child abuse and violating a restraining order.

Onizuka is accused of exchanging sexual text messages with a 12-year-old student he allegedly met at Niu Valley Middle School.

Onizuka is a former educational assistant at Niu Valley Middle School.

His trial is set for October.

He remains free on $11,000 bail.

The mother of a former school aide's alleged sexting victim told investigators that she was disgusted when she read explicit messages on her 12-year-old daughter's cell phone.

Cody Onizuka, 25, is scheduled to be arraigned at Honolulu Circuit Court on August 8th. An Oahu grand jury on Tuesday indicted him on one count of third-degree promoting child abuse and one count of violating a restraining order.

"When I saw that, I said, my goodness, I'm glad he's not working with children anymore," Justin Mew, Niu Valley Middle School principal, said.

Parents waited outside Niu Valley Middle to pick up their kids after school. The hot topic of conversation among them -- the allegations that former teaching assistant Cody Onizuka exchanged sexual text messages with a 12-year-old girl.

A former Department of Education teaching assistant has been indicted by an Oahu grand jury in the first so-called "sexting" case in Hawaii.

Twenty-five-year-old Cody M. Onizuka was charged Tuesday with promoting child abuse in the third degree and violation of a restraining order.

"Sexting" involves the exchange of sexually explicit text messages or images and engaging in virtual sex.

According to Prosecuting Attorney Keith Kaneshiro the indictment alleges that in early 2010, Onizuka tried to establish an intimate and sexual relationship with a 12-year-old female student at Niu Valley Middle School. At the time Onizuka was a teaching assistant at Niu Valley Middle school.

When the girl's mother learned that Onizuka was communicating with her daughter, she asked him to stop.

Trial begins for visiting priest accused of sex assault, kidnapping

A jury trial is underway for a visiting priest accused of holding a woman against her will and fondling her at an East Oahu church earlier this year.

Bothdan Borowic, 56, is charged with kidnapping and two counts of third-degree sexual assault. A 55-year-old woman told investigators that Borowic groped her on the grounds of Holy Trinity Church in February.

The defendant is a Ukrainian Catholic priest who was on vacation from Winnipeg, Canada at the time of the alleged incident.

A Circuit Court jury heard opening statements Tuesday.

Kidnapping is a class A felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

Third-degree sex assault is a class C felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
