Hawaiian Humane Society and Hawaiian Electric Company call for student entries

The Hawaiian Humane Society and Hawaiian Electric Company call for middle and high school students to use their talents and raise humane awareness for animals. Pet Power – Super-Charged Teen Contests is a series of the Society’s most popular contests including photography, poetry and video.

Students and teachers can win hundreds of dollars’ worth in prizes by speaking up for the animals. Top winners in each category win $300 in cash, a VIP meet and greet with national recording stars The Green, Target and iTunes gift cards, T-shirt, scholarship to the Hawaiian Humane Society’s Summer Experience class for winners in grades 9 – 12, and more. All participating students win a spot at The Green’s meet and greet event. Every teacher with at least 10 student entries will be entered into a drawing to win the Pet Power mentor prize, which includes $500 in cash and a two night’s stay at any Standford hotel.

Students can participate in all of the following contests.

Get your pet identification at Hawaii Kai event

Get your pet identification at Hawaii Kai event

Join the Hawaiian Humane Society and Surf Paws Animal Hospital at the Hawaii Kai Dog Park on January 26 from 4 to 6 p.m. to learn more about pet identification. Humane Society staff will be on site to answer your pet-related questions, update your pet’s microchip records and license information, hand out great giveaways and much more. Be the first 100 dog owners who purchase a license and get a free microchip implantation for your dog. Neuter Now certificates, the City & County of Honolulu’s reduced-rate sterilization program, will also be available for sale.

Thousands of pets go missing every year. As Oahu’s official pet lost and found, the Hawaiian Humane Society makes it a priority to get animals home safely and reunite families. By simply complying with the laws that require outdoor cats to have ID and all dogs to wear a county-issued license, you can help your missing pet get home.
