HONOLULU, HAWAII – Father’s Day shoppers and others are invited to drive away hunger at Kahala Mall on Saturday, June 8, 2013, from 2 to 8 p.m. with a food drive, rides in an antique fire truck, free keiki activities and a classic car show featuring over 175 vehicles. There will also be mall-wide store specials, live prize giveaways, live entertainment and a “Staycation” enter-to-win courtesy of Waikiki Beach Marriot Resort & Spa.

The biggest classic car event on Oahu that only happens every other year, the car show will feature custom, classic cars from the 20’s to 80’s on the rooftop parking deck above Longs Drugs at Kahala Mall from 2 to 8 p.m. All car drivers will each be donating $5 or 5 lbs of food to the Hawaii Foodbank.

HONOLULUwww.VoltaCharging.com – Volta Industries (Volta) today announced its new program, Awareness Powered by Volta, a community service outreach program specifically designed to help non-profit and community groups with building awareness by providing them free advertising space worth $3,900 on Volta’s electric vehicle (EV) charging station kiosks.

Interested non-profits and community groups are encouraged to apply by February 22. Volta will choose three semi-finalists, and the public will choose the winning group to receive three months of free advertising at a Volta’s EV charging station valued at $3,000. Meanwhile the runner-up will receive one-month of free advertising valued at $900.

HONOLULU – The First Insurance Company of Hawaii (FICOH) board of directors has elected Jeff Shonka senior vice president, chief operating officer (COO). Shonka joined FICOH in 2002 as its chief financial officer. With this promotion, Shonka has assumed responsibility for key operational areas of the company, including Claims, Personal and Commercial Lines, Legal, Surety & Fidelity, and First Risk Management Services (FiRMS), a subsidiary brokerage operation for non-standard risks.

“Jeff is an invaluable member of the executive team who during his 10 years with First Insurance has not only earned the respect and trust of our officers, but of his department, our company and other industry leaders in Hawaii,” said Allen Uyeda, president and CEO of First Insurance.

“Thanks to our sponsors, EV drivers on Oahu have saved the equivalent of $10,000 in gasoline charges, offsetting enough CO2 to fill 10 Washington Monuments,” said Scott Mercer.  “With new stations being installed each month across Oahu, we expect that number to shoot even higher, to give away more than half a million miles in Hawaii in 2013.”

As CTO, Menendez oversees all aspects of the EV charging stations, from new design and development to manufacturing of the stations. Currently Volta operates one of the largest networks of both free and pay-to-use EV charging stations on Oahu and is actively expanding its presence on the mainland, with a focus on Southern California.

Through the Volta Network, Volta designs, installs and maintains the EV charging station and provides the energy to the EV driver, all free of charge.

The East End Hot Rod show, presented three times a year, is one of the biggest and most diverse car shows in the state.
