Military helicopter makes surprise landing at Koko Head Elementary School

Students at Koko Head Elementary School will be talking about an unexpected guest for quite some time. A military helicopter surprised the school when it landed on campus Monday morning.

The pilot of the U.S. Army Blackhawk Helicopter, flying from Wheeler Army Airfield to the Army's Pohakuloa Training Area on the Big Island, made a precautionary, emergency landing on the school's athletic field after a warning light came on.

While the aircraft was being looked over by Army maintenance crews, Army and school officials let the entire school tour the chopper.

"The first thing I was worried about, obviously, was getting safely on the ground," pilot Timothy Thomas said. "Once we got on the ground, just concerned about people getting close to the aircraft."

According to school principal, Loretta Yee, staff and students enjoyed the surprise landing.

"It was very cool because how often can you have a natural setting like this?
